Location: Behind the Ashraf Islam Engineering Building
"Wings,"
a monumental sculpture standing nearly 70 feet tall, graces the Ashraf
Islam Engineering Building at Tennessee Tech University. Designed by
renowned sculptor John Henry, this striking purple steel structure
features two outstretched beams that embody innovation and creativity.
Weighing over 12 tons, it serves as a vibrant focal point and a tribute
to Henry’s artistic legacy following his passing in November 2022.
Henry’s work uniquely blends engineering principles with artistic
vision, challenging perceptions of weight and balance. As one of his
final creations, "Wings" enhances the campus and inspires students to
think beyond the ordinary and aspire to greatness. Made possible by the
generous support of Millard and JJ Oakley, this installation marks a new
chapter in Tennessee Tech's artistic journey, reminding all of the
limitless possibilities ahead.
