The Adams State mascot was designed and created by local wildlife artist Jim Gilmore, after the legendary last Colorado grizzly bear, Old Mose. The large, 900-pound grizzly was said to terrorize stockmen and livestock at the end of the 19th century. The sculpture was a result of a combined fund-raising effort between the Adams State Alumni Association and the Grizzly Club.
