Situated on the southern end of campus, the Sport Science Building is where exercise science, fitness, physical activity and other classes are held. Inside, an indoor basketball court, 90 meter track and a 1,400 square foot fitness facility are all used for instructional purposes. The fitness facility also provides a metabolic measurement system, electrical stimulation devices and ultrasound equipment that allow students to take a hands-on approach to better understand the tools that will be used in future professional careers or graduate programs.
As a department, Exercise Science at Belmont offers a variety of programs and courses developed to strengthen students mentally, physically and spiritually. Exercise Science majors can enter a broad range of fields upon graduation, including Occupational & Physical Therapy, Fitness, Coaching, Personal Training and Sport Administration. But even those students who don’t see one of those fields in their future may still spend time here. As part of Belmont’s gen ed core curriculum, all students are required to take three hours of wellness classes; these can include physical activity, dance or health and fitness concepts, many of which occur in the Sport Science facility.
