UAA/APU Consortium Library

Consortium Library south entrance

The UAA/APU Consortium Library opened in 1973 and was extensively remodeled in 2004 to serve the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Pacific University as well as members of the research community. The Consortium Library is open 100 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters and is only closed about 20 days each year.

The Consortium Library offers wi-fi networks, space for individual and group study, meeting rooms, a computer lab, and the world’s furthest north Foucault Pendulum. On the roof is a 60-foot LED display “beacon of knowledge,” welcoming inquiring minds to the library.  Onsite the library has more than 844,000 volumes, 16,000 serial titles, and 497,000 microform and media units. It licenses for all of APU and UAA, including the UAA community campuses, more than 150 databases,   560,000 electronic books, 100,000 electronic journals, and 86,000 digital media titles that can be accessed via the Internet or at the library.

In addition to its general collections,  Archives and Special Collections house photographs,  personal papers and organizational records relating to Alaska history and the Alaska Medical Library has a specialized collection of health and medical resources. ARLIS is located on the first floor.  The Alaska Moving Image Preservation Association is housed on the third floor.   The UAA Testing Center and Faculty Development and Instructional Support (CAFE, AI&e, CCEL) are located on the second floor of the Consortium Library.

Library policies and procedures for access and use of building, equipment, and information resources of the Consortium Library are summarized on the website.
