The Stephen F. Austin Statue, commonly referred to as Surfin’ Steve, is a fountain statue that depicts the university’s namesake. The statue is located in the Sesquicentennial Plaza in front of the Steen Library and in between the McKibben Education Building and McGee Business Building.
Within walking distance to the Baker Pattillo Student Center and centrally located on campus, the statue is the location of many involvement gatherings throughout the year, like the Student Government Association’s traditional Weeks of Welcome Watermelon Bash.
