Built in 1923, Austin Hall was originally the "Home Economics and Science Building." It was later renamed in honor of Dr. George Washington Austin, the university's fourth president. Today, Austin Hall is home of the School of Science & Physical Education, the Information Technology Services Department, as well as a computer lab, general science labs and the math Lab. Austin Hall also is home to the Emerson Room, a meeting space created to honor the memory of Dr. Gladys Anderson Emerson, a 1925 graduate who earned international respect in the scientific community for biochemical research.
