Artist Statement:

The art program at Hancock was a place where I could experiment with art freely while also being a sponge, absorbing everything I could from techniques to styles and mediums. Being an alumni now and using all the techniques I’ve learned throughout the years gives me the confidence as an artist to create something different. For this project I had complete creative freedom and wanted to create something honoring the campus.

Incorporating different hues of "Hancock Blue" were intended to make the utility box be viewed as a meaningful part of the campus. I used all sides of the box as a canvas, with the designs being different on all sides. I did this in order to highlight the importance of taking up space and being confident in yourself. The top portion of the utility box being a unique design that can only be seen at the top of the stairs from the buildings next to it. It’s represented to look as if multiple paint layers were expanding from the top and dripping down the sides of the box. This project was very special and I feel very grateful to be able to have my art be displayed on campus.
