The Jere Whitson Building is Tech’s “front door” to prospective students. It houses the university’s enrollment operations, records and registration, new student and family programs, financial aid, graduation office, and military and veterans affairs. The lower level is home to Backdoor Playhouse, a campus theater that hosts student and community productions.
The building is named after Jere Whitson, former chairman of the board for Dixie College. He also was the leader of the move to establish a college in Cookeville during the early 1900s.
