Opened in 2007, the Troutt Theater is a beautiful and intimate proscenium-style theatre that seats over three hundred people and is home to Belmont’s Department of Theatre & Dance.
The complex also includes a scene workshop and the Black Box theatre, an experimental performance and classroom space which accommodates up to one hundred and fifty people. In addition to Belmont student productions, the complex plays host to a variety of professional groups such as the Nashville Shakespeare Festival, the Nashville Ballet and the Nashville Children’s Theatre, among others.
The Department of Theatre and Dance offers Bachelors of Fine Arts degrees in Directing, Performance, Production Design, and Theatre Education as well as Bachelor of Arts options in Theatre and Drama. Minors are offered in Dance or Theatre. Through all of its offerings, the department seeks to mentor students in the development of their artistic skills, creative abilities and critical faculties by providing them with a solid foundation of history, theory, technique and practical experience.
